“Family Matters” – Part 1

Why Marriage?

This series applies to everyone because ____________ of all Americans will be married at some point before they reach age 55.

Marriage isn’t just for the ___________________.

Marriage isn’t just for the ___________________.

Big Idea:  Marriage is God’s _____________________ of His desired ___________________ to mankind.

This doesn’t mean that those who are not married         are _____________  _____________ citizens in the kingdom.

The entire Bible uses marriage __________________ to          describe God’s relationship to His people.

Throughout the centuries the church has been a             poor ____________________ of God’s plan for His people.

Three Key Areas

1.  God seeks relationships with __________________________.

            Genesis 2:24

New International Version (NIV)

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

God desires husbands and wives to be one with __________  _________ and God desires you and me to be             one with ______________.

2 Corinthians 5:17, John 17:20-     21

2 Corinthians 5:17

New International Version (NIV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!

John 17:20-21

New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

2.  God seeks relationships with ________________________.

God’s desire for marriage is for a  ___________________.

____________ of people between the ages of 18 and 29       expect their marriages to last a lifetime.

In the midst of much __________________ regarding   marriage, young people are overwhelmingly             _________________ about their own marriage potential.

The church’s job is to ____________ people to God’s high   standard for marriage and yet not ___________________        those who do not meet that standard.

There is no such thing as a _________________ from Jesus.

3.  God seeks relationships with ____________________.

Husbands are called to _____________ their wives in a         way that is not _________________ for them.

Wives are called to ______________ their husbands in a       way that is not _________________ for them.

The sacrifice involved in marriage is meant to     _______________ the sacrifice involved in a relationship             with God.

Marriage pictures the _________________ we are to have with God, the ___________________ of our relationship with God and the shared _____________________ that comes through a relationship with God.
