“A New You in the New Year” And A Little Something Extra

This Weeks Sermon Notes;

A New You in the New Year

The idea of a “new you” for the “new year” can be purely ________________ unless God is involved in the process.

The Bible is full of language about the importance of the word ____________ as it relates to the follower of Jesus.

The use of the word “new” is not intended to provide _________________ or ___________________ for change.

When God uses the word “new”, the burden for action falls on ____________.

God ______________ the work of “new”…we are told to _______________ what God has already done.

Unfortunately, some see God as the ______________  ____________.

2 Corinthians 5:17:  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

A new creation is not the same as ______________ over a new leaf or _________________ the slate.

There is still work to do, but the work is an _____________ of the change that has been made, not to _____________ the change itself.

“I’ve been made new but I see little change”

Your attachment to the old __________ and the old __________ is you remaining in bondage to chains which have already been _______________.

You are not an _________________ to the wonderful truth of God’s word.

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.  Philippians 2:12-13

How does God desire that I ___________  ________ my salvation?

 “I’ve never been made new”

Attempting to change your ________________ without a new nature is like painting over a badly rusted car.

Your list of sins is quite __________________….that’s part of the old nature.

Why not trust in Jesus Christ to make a __________  ___________ as you begin a new year?
