Do You Speak About God to Others?

Psalm 71 is yet another psalm about God’s ability to deliver David from his enemies. I didn’t realize this was such a consistent theme in this section of the psalms until this time through the psalms, focusing on one psalm at a time. I wonder how precious these words are to followers of Jesus around the world who face consistent and constant persecution. But that’s not the focus this morning. This morning I want to focus on just one sentence at the end of the psalm in verse 24: “My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long.”   This verse caught my eye most likely because this past week’s sermon at Buffalo Valley was from 1 Peter 3 where we are exhorted to “Sanctify the Lord God in our hearts and always be ready to give a defense for the reason for the hope that is in us with meekness and fear.” I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how often we, or how often we don’t, speak about God and His righteousness to friends, family and co-workers. What would it look like, or sound like, to have our tongues speaks of God’s righteousness all the day long? A verbal witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and what He has done for you is a vital part of the life of the believer. It’s not for the “other guy” to do. It’s not just for those who have a spiritual gift of evangelism. It is for all of Jesus’ followers to testify of His goodness, love and salvation. How often have you spoken of the righteousness of God in your life lately? I pray that this morning serves as a reminder to look for opportunities to do this, despite the push-back you might receive. Perhaps even today there will be a chance for you to “talk of God’s righteousness”. I pray that there will be an opportunity and that you will obey.
