The Signs of Your Times – Part 7
Is Jesus the Light of Your World?
John has a clear _______________ for recording the miracles that he records.
The Purpose of John’s Gospel
30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Genuine ______________ in Jesus will not translate to ________________ but will translate into ________________.
The anger caused by Jesus’ practice of healing on the Sabbath was not out of a _______________ for the Sabbath but out of a _________________ for man made religion.
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John is the ___________ gospel writer to refer to Jesus as the light of the world.
John 1:4, In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
1:7-8, He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
8:12, When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
9:5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world
Perhaps John recorded this miracle of _______________ to provide context for Jesus’ declaration of being _______________.
One function of light is to _______________ what is already there.
John 12:25, Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
9:41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.
Sin doesn’t _____________ light.
1 John 1:6
You cannot walk with _____________ and _______________ at the same time.
Walking toward the light is the first step to ________________ the darkness that is already there.
Another function of light is to ____________________.
Two examples in our natural world are ____________________ and the body’s production of ____________________.
Jesus doesn’t just _______________ darkness but __________________ us from darkness to light.
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jesus came to transform your ___________ into _________________.
This man gets both ______________ ___________ and _______________ _________________ in the same day.
35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”
37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”
38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
Are you allowing Jesus to _____________ your sin?
Are you inviting Jesus to _______________ you from the inside out?
