The Heroic_____of Jesus Part 2 “Jesus’ Heroic Death”

Jesus’ Heroic Death

On Palm Sunday the people shouted in ________________ of Jesus.

A few days later the people shouted for the ___________________ of Jesus.

We are going to look at the death of Jesus through the eyes of _________________.

Peter strongly _______________ the possibility of Jesus’ ________________.

Matthew 16:21-22

Jesus Predicts His Death

21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

It is only because of the _____________ of Jesus that we can have abundant and eternal ________________.

1 Peter 3:18:

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

1.  The death of Jesus was heroic because it was _____________.

Jesus’ death was unique because the __________ who         never sinned, died for ___________ who had ever    sinned.

            Hebrews 9;24-28

24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

2.  Jesus’ death was heroic because it was __________________.

The _______________ and ____________ died for the      _________________ and ____________.

Our sin, in the eyes of God, makes each of us        ___________________,  ___________________ and _____________.

Ephesians 2:1-3;

Made Alive in Christ

2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Romans 5:6-8

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Are you willing to let the death of Jesus, the ___________    pay the price for you, the ______________?

3.  Jesus’ death was heroic because it is ____________________.

Jesus’ death brings you and God __________________.

Our sin is like a giant _______________ that separates us      from God.

            Jesus’ death brings two responses:

                        _________________ Him as Savior.

                        _________________ in Him as Savior.
