Real Church – Part 7

Praying so God Always Answers “Yes”

Prayer is the most _________________, _________________ and ________________ part of American local church life.

Most churches have ________________ prayer meetings because most people won’t __________________.

Is it possible that most people do not pray because they don’t believe that prayer ___________?

Though some people and churches are _______________ to the lack of prayer, most of us are simply _________________ for a lack of prayer.

Most of us choose to ________________ in ways that _______________ us or others.

If we could pray in a way where God always answered _______ wouldn’t we be more likely to say __________ to prayer?

Acts 4:23-31

The Believers Pray

23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David:

“‘Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
against the Lord
    and against his anointed one.[a][b]

27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Three Principles for Powerfully Answered Prayer

  1. God answers “yes” when we focus on the _____________ of God and not the ____________ of men.

Starting with a _________________ of who God is puts us           on the ____________  ___________ to allow God to have           access to our hearts and minds.

  1. God answers “yes” when we focus on the _____________ of God and not the ____________________ of us.

The disciples prayed for ______________ and not for    _________________.

Acts 4:29

29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.

Their request for _________________ indicates they       expect their protection to be threatened.

Would you be willing to sacrifice personal  ____________        for the glory of God?

  1. God answers “yes” when we focus on the needs of ____________ and not the needs of __________________.

A _______________ God desires to answer more than our         _______________ prayers.
