LIFE Part 10 “Getting Good From God to Give Good to Others”

Sermon Notes ;

Getting Good From God to Give Good to Others

Good cooks often enjoy cooking for the benefit of ________________ more than themselves.

The main emphasis of the Sermon on the Mount is not “What can God do for ___________….rather “What can God for me ____________ so I can do for _______________.”

My life is ________________ not about me.

Matthew 7:7-12

Ask, Seek, Knock

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Instead of putting the focus on me as the _____________, the focus is on me as the ________________.

Narcissism:  ________________ sense of own __________________ and a deep need for _____________________.

All human beings have a form of ________________ narcissism.

If my life is mainly ___________ about me, it makes sense that God’s activity in my life is __________ mainly about me.

Big Idea:  I get _____________ things from a _____________ God so I can be _______________ to you.

1.  I get ______________ things. (vs 7-8), “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

 Mark 11:24; John 14:13-14; James 4:3

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

2.  I get _____________ things from a ______________ God.

A good God can’t treat me ____________.

Even though things appear to be _____________; God          ultimately will use them for our ______________.              Genesis 50:20

3.  I get ______________ things from a ______________ God so I can be _______________ to you. (vs 12) 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

In doing good for others I’m not ___________________           they will do anything for me.

Many people do not balk at spending money on a           credit card and then __________________ somehow to get         the money to pay it off.

Many people do balk at giving money they don’t have    and ________________ God to meet the need created by      their gift to others.
