Get to Work – Part 1

The Gospel

“Get to Work” is a phrase to help us focus on the ___________ of the church.

If we frequently remind ourselves of what we are supposed to __________; we increase the likelihood that it actually gets ___________.

Our focus will be on Jesus’ first _____________ statement.

Luke 4:16-21

16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,     because he has anointed me     to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners     and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19     to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]

20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Our emphasis for the next three weeks:

P_______________  the gospel.

S________________ the poor

I________________ others to hope.

As we begin, we need to know that the ____________ to do this right comes from God, not us.

Jesus came to ________ the gospel and to ___________ the gospel.

1 Corinthians 15:1-5

The Resurrection of Christ

15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas,[b] and then to the Twelve.

The gospel is ____________  _____________ about _____________.
