In What or Whom Do You Trust?

Psalm 20 has always been special to me. As a young adult starting to attend a church for the first time, my first Christian concert was in the church, maybe 100 people, with a man named Alan Read. Alan had an original song based on Psalm 20. The song contained many of the words from Psalm 20 but the phrase that has always stuck with me is: “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” On a battlefield the number of chariots and horses are important. David was a man who had fought many battles. Horses and chariots are a sign of human strength. If you have more horses and chariots you should feel pretty good about your chances. Or do horses and chariots tell the entire story?

According to David, his trust was not in horses and chariots but in the name of the Lord and all that was encompassed in that. Horses and chariots don’t tell the entire story for the follower of God. God tells the whole story. If your trust is in chariots and horses but you are in opposition to God or His plan, your horses and chariots aren’t going to be of much help. But if your horses are puny and your chariots are few, and God is on your side, then you’ll be just fine. So in whom or what are you trusting? I hope that you will trust in God and in His plan for you and your life.
