Tongue Twisted?

An all time favorite tongue twister is “She sells sea shells by the sea shore”. Go ahead, you can say it three times very fast. Tongue twisters are designed to be difficult for our tongue and mouth to be in the right place to produce the sounds necessary for the words. In James 3 we read about the power of the tongue. James says that though the tongue is small in size, it has great power. He compares the tongue to a bit in a horse’s mouth, a rudder on a ship and a small fire that grows into a large one. These things are much smaller than what they control or impact, yet they have a great impact. The same is true for the tongue. The person who came up with “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me” must have been deaf. More damage has been done through words than through wars. But the tongue has the same power to do good as it does to do damage. Uplifting words, words of encouragement and words of praise are powerful tools which can be used for good.  Please take the time to read James 3 and ask yourself how you are using your tongue and your words.
