Who’s Your Daddy?

One of the most compelling things about God in my opinion is that He reveals Himself to be “Father”.   God could have revealed Himself to us in any way He desired, but He chose “Father”. But is God “Father” to everyone? It seems common in our world to speak of everyone as “God’s children” but is that true? I don’t think so. In Galatians 3 we are given an opportunity to understand how God becomes our Father. This is what Paul writes in verses 26-29: 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. We become sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ. That is the only way to rightly call God, “Father”. And this incredible opportunity is open to everyone, Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. There is no distinction in Christ. There is no room for prejudice or division in the body of Christ. These sorts of distinctions are present in our world, but not regarding salvation and being related to the Father.

Paul also writes here about being an heir to the promises of the Father. You don’t get the inheritance unless you are related to the Father and you can’t be related to the Father unless it is through Christ. Without Christ God is your Creator and He loves you but you are not His child. Why wouldn’t you want to be His child and receive the inheritance of abundant life on earth and eternal life in heaven? If you are a child of God through Jesus, rejoice today in the relationship that has been granted to you, regardless of your station or situation in life. You are a child of God.
