Man’s Words and God’s Words

Psalm 12 is a contrast between the ways and words of man and those of God. Even if you have never read Psalm 12 I think you can figure out how this one is going to go. Psalm 12 describes the words of man as prideful and short lived. Here is how Psalm 12 speaks of the words of God: The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.  You shall keep them, O Lord,You shall preserve them from this generation forever. God’s words are pure words. What does the word “pure” signify in relation to “words”? To me, this word means that God’s words are purposeful and without innuendo and nuance. God doesn’t have hidden meanings or agendas with His words. Sometimes God’s words are harsh, carrying judgment, but they are never full of double meaning. Another meaning for pure might be “value”. God’s words are valuable and meaningful, never wasted or disposable.

Finally, God’s words are said to be everlasting. God will keep them and preserve them forever. We say things that are short lived and sometimes that’s a good thing. But God’s words stand forever…which makes sense since God is everlasting. Please don’t underestimate the value of God’s words in your life. Read them…meditate on them…apply them.
